November 2017 Game Night

Pete and Paul joined me for a small game night. Joe begged off with an unspecified ailment. So I have a LOT of leftover Sliders to eat or kill small rodents with.

We dined on Sliders, regular and sour cream and onion chips, several dips, and two types of cookies (three if you count Paul's special dietary needs).

Pete brought some premium beer that was about three times as strong as normal beer. Thanks Pete! That supplemented the house swill, Labatt Blue Light, that helps us all keep the ladies drooling for us.

Yes, they are drooling for us. Don't be a buzz kill.

But I digress.

Anyway ... we had a full happy hour and my son, daughter, and ex-wife staged out of here to walk to the stadium for the game.

I did not expect a night game to conflict with game night. But parking was fine, at least.

We used the 3D printed map and specialty pieces. Thanks Paul! My kids got to see dad's nerdiness in full 3D glory. That was special.

Joe forced me, by his example, to fire up a Catan meme slide show on my computer to get the proper ambiance.

Pete was on fire and won 3 games while Paul took honors in the fourth game. It was an Anderson Axis.

The Golden Dice let me down; and Paul sought refuge with the tiny dice.

Pete was getting so used to winning that in his last win he used a monopoly card to take the SINGLE wheat card he knew Paul had drawn, in order to upgrade a city to get to 10 points. I think that was the Catan equivalent of turfing our lawn. Or spiking the ball.

And seriously, I do believe I uttered the words "Pete, you have 9 points" twice in the game as he kind of stealthed his way to the lead. I suspect I know why he brought the high octane beer.

All winners held the longest road, and Paul took honors by winning his game with the longest road AND the largest army.

I think I had a shot at only one of the games, if memory serves me. Again, the specialty beer. Or maybe the Sliders were kicking in.

To me, despite only three players, the board seemed unusually constricted. Some nights in the past with 3 players seemed like they had wide open boards. But maybe it was just me!

Pete was the only player to use a point card in reaching 10, I think.

We wrapped up the evening by finishing season 3 of Game of Thrones.

And we all watched our phones record the passage of time  from 1:59 AM to 1:00 AM, making sure all was well with the time-space fabric. After the whole Berenstein Bear hole in the fabric between time lines, that seemed prudent.

A fun if small gathering! We'll aim for early December for next Game Night.
